Chapter 756: Lu Xun's Request

"You've met Dr. Chu." Yang Xiao added from the side. "He went on this exploration too. He's the one who was always following Old Lu and didn't like to talk much..."

After Yang Xiao's description, Chen Ling finally remembered the existence of this person. Dr. Chu's presence was indeed not very high; he should be the type who doesn't like socializing, just like Yang Xiao. If he hadn't already been in contact with Aurora, he probably wouldn't have paid much attention to Yang Xiao... This Dr. Chu had always been by Lu Xun's side, including when they were scattered by the disaster, they were the ones who left together, so Chen Ling didn't have much of an impression.

"Was Dr. Chu also used as an experimental subject with you?" Chen Ling asked.

"No, Dr. Chu is different from me." Lu Xun shook his head. "He was the one responsible for conducting experiments on me, or rather, he basically handled my experimental data..."

"You were the experimental subject, and he was the experimenter?" Chen Ling was incredibly surprised. "Which field does this Dr. Chu study?"

"Cell Biology."

Chen Ling frowned, lost in thought.

"Of course, things turning out like this wasn't Dr. Chu's intention." Lu Xun took the initiative to explain for Dr. Chu,

"Dr. Chu's biological research institute, like my astronomical observation center, is a unit supervised by Bureau 749. At first, he thought it was just analyzing cell samples, until the situation gradually spiraled out of control, and he also lost the say in my experiments...

The changes within Bureau 749 were what he secretly warned me about. Being able to escape this time is also thanks to his help."

"But he was also a member of the exploration team, and he also came into contact with the Red Star fragments... Did the people from Bureau 749 not experiment on him too?" Chen Ling asked back.

"The first time unknown components were detected in me, Bureau 749 immediately conducted sampling and analysis on Dr. Chu." Lu Xun paused for a moment. "However, Dr. Chu's biological samples were completely normal."

"Completely normal... How is that possible?" Yang Xiao murmured to himself.

Whether it was himself, Su Zhiwei, or Lu Xun... everyone who participated in that exploration had undergone various mutations. Dr. Chu shouldn't have been an exception.

"However, it's fortunate that Dr. Chu's samples were normal. This made the people at Bureau 749 think that not everyone who came into contact with the Red Star fragments underwent mutations, but that individual mutations only occurred in me, Lu Xun... It was precisely because of this that they didn't immediately come to grab you." Lu Xun's tone was very fortunate.

"Do they really dare to grab people so blatantly?" Yang Xiao frowned.

"Bureau 749, naturally, wouldn't do such a thing... However, those guys who transferred me out of the Bureau can be considered to have the power to cover the sky with one hand here in Shanghai." Lu Xun's expression was very serious,

"They don't have official backgrounds, so they can't mobilize 'White Hands.' They can only rely on their own connections to contact some 'Black Hands'... Before I came over, they were still chasing me all over the city."

Speaking of this, Chen Ling suddenly remembered the man in the windbreaker he had tricked halfway, and his expression became a bit subtle.

That man also had a Divine Path aura, and combined with the content of the phone call at the time, he could basically be confirmed as one of the "Black Hands" capturing Lu Xun. Counting the time, he should be dragging his feet to Shanghai by now.

"So, you asked me to come this time because you want me to help you escape Shanghai?"

"...No." Lu Xun shook his head. "If I wanted to escape, I would have already left Shanghai. I don't need to go around in circles with them here."

"Then you want..."

"The development of human civilization requires people to make sacrifices, and it also requires the courage to face mysteries. They want to obtain more information about the Red Star from me, which is not a problem, and I am willing to cooperate... It's just that I don't want anyone to study me for their own private gain."

Lu Xun's voice was very calm. He sat in the open-air café, the city's neon lights flickering behind him like a sky full of stars.

Chen Ling was stunned for a moment before he understood what he meant:

"You mean, you are willing to continue cooperating with the experiments, but you don't want to hand yourself over to that group of separatists?"

"Yes, I want to talk to the high-level officials of Bureau 749 again, but right now, this group of people won't let me get in touch with Bureau 749... Otherwise, everything they've done will be exposed."

Lu Xun paused for a moment. "Besides that, asking you to come this time... is also to ask you to cover for us."

"Cover for you? How so?"

"Although Bureau 749 won't force us to undergo human experimentation, I'm worried that the secrets of the Red Star are too tempting. Besides me, other organizations will target others, such as Yang Xiao, Su Zhiwei, Wu Tongyuan..."

"I'm fine, but scientific researchers like Wu Tongyuan and Yang Xiao are usually obsessed with research. If they are not careful, they will be used or forcibly kidnapped. So I hope someone can secretly protect their safety.

I saw your strength in Shennongjia. This time, the rescue team members also saw you walking on the clouds facing the sky full of red flowers on the mountaintop, like a miracle... Although I don't know why you mixed into the exploration team, at least you have goodwill toward us.

You are the only 'Black Hand' I know, and the only one who doesn't have malicious intent toward us. After I enter Bureau 749, if I have a big hand like you protecting them from behind, I can rest easy..."

Hearing this, Chen Ling finally understood.

Lu Xun didn't ask him to come this time for himself, but for the other Nine Lords... He hoped that if someone had an accident, he could lend a hand.

The gatherer of the Nine Lords is asking himself to secretly protect the Nine Lords...

Chen Ling felt that fate was very wonderful. The current Lu Xun has no idea what the nine of them mean in the future, but in this era, they are not yet fully fledged and indeed have no ability to protect themselves...

This request is undoubtedly consistent with Chen Ling's own wishes. He also hopes to have an opportunity to contact the Nine Lords and establish various connections with them... Although he hasn't matched the secret code of the era with Su Zhiwei yet, based on the current clues, Chen Ling feels that this must be closely related to the future era.

"Some of you don't need my protection at all..." Chen Ling said slowly.

Lu Xun was stunned, thinking Chen Ling was going to refuse, and immediately wanted to say something else, but Chen Ling's second half of the sentence followed immediately:

"However, I can help with the safety of the others."

Lu Xun breathed a sigh of relief.

"Then regarding your reward..."

"Dr. Lu, we can talk about the reward later."

Chen Ling suddenly interrupted Lu Xun's words. He stood up from his seat, his eyes narrowed as he looked at the distant night sky...

"Now... it seems we have trouble."

Buzz buzz buzz—

Lu Xun and Yang Xiao were both stunned. They turned their heads to look, and saw a helicopter cutting through the sky under the pitch-black night, speeding toward them!
