Chapter 611: Descent of the Abyss
Seeing this scene, Chen Ling’s heart skipped a beat!
Hadn't he already left the theater and come to deal with these Jiangtian cultists just as they wanted? Why had this suddenly popped up now?!
Wait...
A thought suddenly flashed through Chen Ling’s mind. He looked down at his feet and saw that the blood ring for the suicide ritual, which the Jiangtian cultist had prepared in advance, was beginning to light up bit by bit!
Chen Ling felt the object in his hand growing lighter. The heart seemed to be burning, turning directly into billowing thick smoke that passed through the ceiling above and rose straight into the sky!
"A Jiangtian Sect ritual??"
Chen Ling’s expression turned incredibly ugly as he guessed what was happening.
The Jiangtian Sect’s suicide ritual seemed to involve sacrificing one’s own organs within a specified preparation range to summon a Gray Realm intersection... Just now, when Chen Ling saw the opponent rip out his lung, he had been puzzled. With so many organs in the human body, why go through the trouble of cutting through flesh and breaking ribs to sacrifice a lung?
Moreover, Chen Ling had previously wondered how the Jiangtian Sect managed to have so many cultists summon in different areas simultaneously, yet all引来 (attract) the "Sighing Wilderness" instead of some other disaster area, like the "Forbidden Sea" or the "Ghost-Mocking Abyss"... Now, this question seemed to have an answer.
It wasn't that only sacrificing a lung could summon the Gray Realm; it was that only sacrificing a lung could specify the summoning of the "Sighing Wilderness"?
And Chen Ling’s appearance had undoubtedly broken the Jiangtian cultist’s original plan. He hadn't been able to use his lung to summon the "Sighing Wilderness" for an intersection, but instead, before dying, his heart had been ripped out by the "Audience"...
If the Jiangtian cultist sacrificing a "lung" could specify the summoning of the "Sighing Wilderness," then now that he had sacrificed a "heart"... what would it summon?
A name surfaced in Chen Ling’s mind. He looked up sharply at the sky outside the pharmacy, where a touch of gray was gradually spreading!
"...No way, right?"
Chen Ling muttered to himself.
……
"Tsk... I just came out for a stroll, how come I can't get back?"
Amidst the ruins of the devastated buildings, Heart 9 scratched his head and sighed helplessly.
Beside him, the two-meter-tall, black-robed Jack of Clubs was particularly conspicuous in the ruins. He spoke gloomily, "Before we left, you said you knew the way."
"Come on, buddy, I can know the way, but that requires there to be a way in the first place!!"
Heart 9 pointed at the ruins around them, cursing, "Don't talk about knowing the way; right now, you can't even see a complete road... Who could possibly know how to get back?"
The Jack of Clubs was about to say something when he suddenly turned his head to look at the building ruins beside them.
BOOM—!!
A heaven-shaking explosion erupted beside them. The small building, which had already collapsed to half its height, was smashed to pieces by an incredibly fast white shadow. Heart 9 and the Jack of Clubs were instantly engulfed by the shadow, shattering and dissipating into mid-air.
Amidst the flying dust, the white shadow streaked out nearly a hundred meters before slowly coming to a halt... It was a slender skeleton three meters long. Judging by its silhouette, it resembled a cheetah; its bones were incredibly light compared to a rhinoceros, and it moved through the wind without creating any resistance, moving at an incredibly fast speed.
It looked back toward the direction where the two had been smashed, tilting its head slightly, seemingly puzzled as to why these two hadn't exploded into blood plasma, leaving behind only playing cards fluttering and spinning in place.
"That was close... almost got torn apart." Heart 9’s voice came from not far away.
"Your vigilance is too poor."
"What do you mean my vigilance is poor... I was looking for the way! Besides, my rank isn't as high as yours, so it’s reasonable for my reaction to be a beat slow."
"So, did you find the way?"
"...Let’s talk about this big cat instead. Are you going to kill it, or am I?"
"It’s a leopard."
"That’s not important!"
The leopard looked in the direction of the voices and saw the two standing unscathed in an open space over a hundred meters away, seemingly arguing about its species.
A low growl emanated from beneath its hollow skeleton. Its limbs crouched slightly, pressing against the ground like a hunter, every bone poised like an arrow on a string, ready to strike.
After a brief pause, its form tore through the air, dragging trails of afterimages in the void as it charged at the two again.
The Jack of Clubs, who was in the middle of a serious discussion with Heart 9 about the skeletal differences of felines, glanced toward it, his hands brushing over his wide black trench coat.
The next moment, a large flock of white doves flew out from beneath his coat, like a fluttering white cloud, surging toward the speeding leopard!
The leopard didn't dodge at all, continuing straight ahead, tearing through the doves. Agile as it was, it didn't touch a single one... But as the Jack of Clubs slowly raised the back of his hand, which bore a burning skull bonfire tattoo, a crisp snap echoed across the sky!
SNAP—
The next moment, the white doves flying around the leopard turned into thick chains out of thin air, passing directly through the gaps in its bones and binding it in mid-air!
The Jack of Clubs’ fingertips rose slowly. The last dove flew out from his hem, flapping its wings to land on his fingertip. With a flick of his finger, the dove instantly turned into a black magician’s top hat, which he elegantly placed on his head.
"If I waited for you to kill it, the food would have gone cold... I’ll do it." The Jack of Clubs said faintly.
He raised his fingertips and made a light grabbing motion toward the leopard, which was struggling frantically within the chains.
"[Cutting Trick]."
The moment the Jack of Clubs finished speaking, the space around the leopard suddenly folded into metal plates, dividing its body into a dozen different sections, which then began to move in all directions as if it were being torn apart by five horses...
These sections sliced through the leopard’s body, yet the latter didn't die immediately. Instead, every piece of its body remained active, seemingly without any abnormality. It looked bizarre, like a perfect magic performance.
As the Jack of Clubs slowly closed his five fingers and gave a casual tug in the void, the dozen or so sections were instantly pulled hundreds of meters apart. A sharp explosion rang out from the severed leopard’s head, and the next moment, all its bones shattered and exploded, scattering across the ground.
"Done." The Jack of Clubs took off the magician’s hat, turned it back into a white dove, and tucked it into his sleeve.
"Did you find the way back?"
"..." Heart 9 was speechless. "What do you think? Is our situation any different from before?"
"Then what do we do? Just wait for the 10 of Diamonds to come pick us up?"
"Disasters are rampant here now; it’s hard to say if the Jinghong Tower is even still there... Maybe it’s already been flattened by some disaster."
"Be optimistic. Isn't there still a place over there that hasn't been intersected by the Gray Realm?" The Jack of Clubs pointed into the distance, toward the only patch of sky still shrouded in night.
No sooner had he finished speaking than a wisp of thick smoke rose beneath the night sky, and lead-gray clouds spread like a tide, shrouding the entire sky in the blink of an eye!
Jack of Clubs: ...
"Are you a crow? If you can't say anything useful, just shut up." Heart 9 couldn't help but complain.
The Jack of Clubs was about to defend himself when he suddenly froze, turning his head in confusion to look at the area being intersected by the Gray Realm...
"That’s not right... This isn't the aura of the Sighing Wilderness?"
"Not the Sighing Wilderness? Then where could it be?" Heart 9 shrugged and looked toward that direction. The next moment, he suddenly felt the aura there was somewhat familiar. "Wait..."
"That is..."
"The [Ghost-Mocking Abyss]???"
