Chapter 549: Private Room
“What on earth is going on here?!!!”
Watching all the guests rush out of the dance hall in terror, Li Ruohong still didn't know what had happened. He turned to look around, and with the help of the lightning flashing outside the window from time to time, he walked step by step toward the center of the ruined dance hall.
He looked down in confusion at the pool of blood and flesh on the ground, carefully recalling the scene from just a moment ago... He vaguely remembered that for a split second, the bodyguard’s corpse had appeared there, but he hadn't even touched the guy, and in the blink of an eye, the body was gone.
“Was it a hallucination? That shouldn't be...” Li Ruohong looked around and found that a few timid waiters were still hiding in the corner. Even the other bodyguard who had been following him, as well as the dance hall manager, were looking at him with terror, as if they had seen a ghost.
“Hey! Why are you hiding? Get out here!!”
Li Ruohong roared, and the group jumped in fright. But seeing the blood-stained blade in his hand and the scene from earlier where he had sent someone flying ten meters with a single slash, they still cautiously took a few steps forward.
Seeing their gazes, Li Ruohong realized he was still holding the short blade. He immediately threw it to the ground with a clatter and walked toward them.
As he walked, they retreated, causing Li Ruohong to curse loudly:
“What are you hiding for??”
Just as Li Ruohong finished speaking, his peripheral vision caught his reflection in a glass pane. As a pale bolt of lightning flashed, his blood-soaked appearance was clearly reflected before his eyes, giving him a huge fright!
Li Ruohong instinctively moved a few steps away from the glass, finally regaining his composure. He wiped his face hard with his hands, only to end up with his hands covered in foul-smelling blood.
“What... what is going on?”
“B-Boss, why did you kill Fu Sheng?” the only remaining bodyguard asked, his face pale.
“I killed him? I didn't kill him! I just wanted to push him... He flew away on his own!” Li Ruohong answered instinctively. “Who told him to find me annoying? I just said a few words to him, and he dared to talk back to me...”
The bodyguard’s face turned even paler!
“By the way, where is Fu Sheng?” Li Ruohong looked around.
“You killed him!”
“I told you, damn it! I didn't kill him!! I just pushed him, how could he possibly die?! Did he hide somewhere?”
“He’s dead, we all saw it! His body disappeared in the blink of an eye... it was like, like the floor ate him.” As they spoke, their eyes fell on the pool of blood and flesh, their voices growing quieter.
“The floor can eat people? Bullshit!”
Li Ruohong didn't believe any of this. In his view, that bodyguard named Fu Sheng must have held a grudge against him and used this method to get revenge... But he didn't understand, why were these floorboards seeping blood for no reason?
Under the washing of the heavy rain, the bloodstains on the floorboards gradually faded, returning to normal rainwater, but Li Ruohong’s expression turned solemn as if he had thought of something.
Could it be...
“I’m going upstairs to take a look, don’t follow me,” Li Ruohong said, turning to the waiters. “Also, clean this place up immediately... Don’t spread any nonsense about murders or ghosts. Keep today’s events buried, understand?”
The group looked at each other and lowered their heads in silence.
Li Ruohong didn't have time to waste with them. His unease was growing stronger. He took a kerosene lamp that hadn't been used in a long time from a cabinet, lit it, and walked step by step toward the second floor by the light of the flame.
At this moment, there was no one left in the second-floor private rooms. This area wasn't really open to the public; without status or standing, you couldn't get in here... And among the rooms on this floor, one was even more special. It was located in the deepest part and had no windows or corridors leading outside. Except for Li Ruohong, no one had ever entered it.
Li Ruohong stood still at the door of Private Room 001. The dim light illuminated his uneasy face. After taking a deep breath, he pushed the door open.
Inside the room was a spacious VIP suite. Luxurious sofas surrounded an imported carpet, and a kerosene lamp flickered slightly on the coffee table, its halo silently illuminating a corner of the room. Within his field of vision, however, he could not see anyone.
Li Ruohong was stunned. Before he could react, a cold glint shot out from the corner, precisely pressing against his throat!
It was a knife wrapped in gray-white bandages, with crooked blood-red characters wound around them. It didn't look like a combat weapon, but rather like some kind of sacrificial tool. Yet, the sharp blade was enough to easily slice through Li Ruohong’s throat. Even now, just pressing against his skin, fresh blood was slowly flowing down the blade.
Li Ruohong’s body stiffened instantly. He stammered,
“T-two envoys... it’s me, it’s Li Ruohong!”
Seeing his face clearly, the figure holding the knife in the shadows of the corner slowly lowered the blade, the killing intent in their eyes relaxing slightly.
“Li Ruohong, what’s going on outside?”
“Not only did the power suddenly cut out, but it’s also noisy as hell... I thought the people from the [Floating Life Painting] had tracked us down.” From another corner, another figure walked out slowly. It was a man completely hidden in a black robe, with various strange symbols embroidered on the edge of his hood, looking mysterious and unfathomable.
“I don’t know either, I was about to ask you two.” Li Ruohong frowned at them. “That blood seeping from the floorboards... wasn’t that your doing?”
The two men in black looked at each other and shook their heads simultaneously.
“Our main task right now is to lurk and maintain contact; how could we possibly do something so eye-catching...”
“...That’s strange, then what’s going on?”
Li Ruohong had thought the blood-seeping was the work of these two, as their Divine Path was too similar to this kind of thing. Otherwise, he wouldn't have told the people downstairs to keep it buried; essentially, he wanted to hide the existence of these two.
Li Ruohong paced around the room as if thinking hard about something, his eyes full of anxiety:
“Damn it... although I don’t know what’s going on, the commotion just now wasn't small. I’m worried the police will come knocking... If that happens, this place won’t be safe anymore.”
The eyes of the two men in black sharpened as they looked at each other. “Our transfer formation is already prepared. If the situation turns bad, we can evacuate at any time, so you don’t need to worry about that... The most important thing now is the situation with your uncle. Have you talked to him?”
“I’ve already sounded him out. He’s also very interested in you two... It just so happens that my uncle’s birthday banquet is coming up soon. I can take this opportunity to sneak you into the manor and meet him privately.”
“That would be best.” One of the men in black nodded. “The Beidou Consortium is currently the most influential non-governmental organization in the Red Dust Main City, and it’s also the number one target on our contact list...
We, the Wuji Domain, are very much looking forward to cooperating with Old Master Mu.”
