Chapter 480: [Morality]
Beep—beep—beep—
Inside the white tent, the sounds of various medical devices rose and fell. Nine figures lay side by side on their respective beds, receiving IV drips, unconscious.
"Strange, none of them have any external injuries, nor are there any signs of a concussion... Why won't they wake up?"
"It's been nearly ten hours since the search and rescue and transport here. Could something have happened during the process that caused them to fall into a deep sleep?"
"The medical equipment here is limited. Perhaps we should send them to a hospital for a comprehensive examination..."
"The commander is calling us outside. Let's go, let's report first."
After confirming that the nine people were uninjured, the medical staff lifted the tent flap and walked straight out. The large tent was left with only the beeping of medical equipment echoing inside.
A few seconds later,
On one of the hospital beds, a figure slowly opened his eyes.
Dr. Lou sat up from the bed, his eyes devoid of the confusion typical of someone just waking up. He glanced at the closed tent flap and then headed toward Wu Tongyuan's bed in the distance.
Just then, a voice rang out coldly from the side:
"I knew you were faking sleep."
Dr. Lou frowned. Even without turning back, he knew who was speaking... On the bed behind him, Dr. Ji had also woken up at some point, his cold eyes staring fixedly at him, and a terrifying pressure began to radiate into the surroundings.
"Likewise," Dr. Lou said calmly. "I thought you would keep faking it until you woke up with the others."
"If I didn't wake up, you'd be killing someone again."
Dr. Ji's voice was incredibly chilling. As he spoke, the gravity acting on Dr. Lou increased sharply, as if God had dropped the scepter of "mechanics" from the heavens, crushing his body onto the earth!
Thud—!!
The gravity, sufficient to crush any carbon-based life form, pressed down on Dr. Lou's body, yet it failed to cause him the slightest harm. Even the bed beneath him and the floor showed no signs of cracking...
If one looked closely, one could see that Dr. Lou's skin was emitting a faint luster. It was unclear what material it was made of, but even the bed and floor beneath him had been assimilated into this material, remaining completely unmoved under God's scepter of "mechanics"!
Dr. Lou smiled faintly. "Are you sure you want to fight me here?"
The coldness in Dr. Ji's eyes grew even more intense. He was like an enraged king, and a terrifying aura spread to the surroundings... But when his gaze fell on the other unconscious figures in the hospital beds, he forcibly restrained his anger.
"I'm warning you, don't think that just because you came back with that broken USB drive, no one can suppress you... Even if you run to the end of the era, I will follow you relentlessly."
"Broken USB drive? Are you talking about this?"
Dr. Lou flicked his fingertips, and a USB drive appeared in his palm. If Chen Ling were here, he would recognize at a glance that this was the same USB drive he held, though the patterns on its surface were different from his [Spirit Treasure].
Era Archive—[Morality].
"If Sovereign Ruoshui heard you call this thing a broken USB drive, she would be sad... After all, this is a 'quantum mechanics' artifact that she poured everything into creating, and there are only three in the world." Dr. Lou toyed with the USB drive and added with a smile,
"Of course... for someone like me who holds the authority of 'materials,' there is nothing that cannot be replicated, provided one pays the price."
"Spare me your fake mercy," Dr. Ji sneered. "I'm telling you, with me here, you won't be able to kill anyone. I'll be sticking to you!"
Dr. Ji's figure flickered, and he flashed in front of Dr. Lou, grabbing his throat with one hand and slamming him heavily onto the ground.
Thud—!!
Dr. Lou's body collided with the ground, emitting a sharp metallic sound. The gravity, sufficient to crush everything, once again pressed down on Dr. Lou, as if an invisible giant hand were pinning him to the earth.
"Killing the Nine Sovereigns, supporting Ying Fu... you will only push humanity into the abyss of destruction!"
"You're wrong about that. How is supporting Ying Fu destroying humanity?" Dr. Lou, pinned to the ground by Dr. Ji, showed no fear and spoke with a light smile. "Do you know who he is? My charming ancestor harbors grand ambitions to sweep across both worlds... What if he actually succeeds?"
"Don't think I can't see it; you're just using him." Dr. Ji's eyes narrowed slightly.
Dr. Lou didn't speak, just looked at him quietly, the smile on his lips undiminished.
The next moment, a rustling sound came from the side.
"My head hurts... Damn it, what happened?"
Lu Xun groaned as he climbed up from his bed, holding his head with one hand, his expression pained.
Hearing this voice, Dr. Ji frowned involuntarily. He knew he couldn't continue. He couldn't kill Dr. Lou right now, and if he continued and someone noticed something, it might change history.
Amidst Dr. Lou's cold laughter, Dr. Ji released his grip on his throat and slowly stood up from the ground.
Dr. Lou also stood up unhurriedly, brushing the dust off his clothes as if nothing had ever happened...
"What are you two doing?" Lu Xun looked around blankly and saw Dr. Ji and Dr. Lou standing together, asking instinctively.
"Nothing," Dr. Lou smiled. "Just chatting..."
As the two were speaking, several figures in white coats lifted the tent flap and were pleasantly surprised to see Lu Xun and the other two awake.
"They're awake! Someone's awake!"
……
By the time Yang Xiao woke up, it was already dusk.
The surrounding beds were mostly empty, with only Wu Tongyuan still lying on his bed, sleeping soundly. It was unclear whether he was still unconscious or if he had just fallen into a deep sleep, but seeing the drool hanging from the corner of his mouth, he didn't seem to be in any life-threatening danger.
Beside him, Lu Xun sat in a chair, holding a paper and reading it, as if he were specifically looking after Wu Tongyuan.
"My head hurts..." Yang Xiao felt the pain in his mind and frowned involuntarily.
"Yang Xiao? You're awake."
Hearing his voice, Lu Xun put down the paper and walked over. "It's normal for your head to hurt now. Although I don't know why it hurts... but based on the others' situations earlier, it should subside in about two or three minutes."
Yang Xiao recalled what had happened before he lost consciousness, only to find a gap in his memory. He looked around blankly and asked suspiciously:
"Is this the base? Are we back?"
"Yeah." Lu Xun nodded slightly, his gaze passing through the tent flap to look at the people outside in the sunset, packing up the tents in preparation for departure. "Although I don't know exactly what happened... but we seem to have been dragged into something incredible."
