Chapter 1923: Epilogue — Postscript
Well, it's finished.
From September 2023 to April 2026, two and a half years of serialization have finally reached this day of conclusion. If I had to describe how I feel... it would probably be a sense of trance.
Looking back now, it feels like the time I started writing *God of Drama* was in a past life.
At that time, *God-Slayer* had probably just finished for about three months. I wrote the beginning of *I Am Not the God of Drama* with a sense of trepidation, or perhaps I should say extreme nervousness... That was probably the time of greatest pressure for me, aside from the college entrance exam.
*God-Slayer* was indeed very popular at the time, but precisely because of that, the unprecedented pressure made it hard for me to breathe. People are always arrogant; when a new thing emerges, people always look at its existence with the most critical and harsh eyes. Free reading was that new thing, and many people looked at it with a sense of superiority, while I happened to be standing at the center of the storm.
When I first wrote *God-Slayer*, I was just a newcomer who had only started writing for ten months.
After *God-Slayer* finished, all kinds of voices appeared: "Just one hit book, it's just luck," "No one has ever had two hits in a row on Tomato," "A pig standing on the wind," "A lucky person built by traffic," "Free reading doesn't remember the author, can't build a pen name, no one will remember who wrote this story"...
Some of what they said was right; I was indeed a pig standing on the wind of free reading, blown to a height that didn't belong to me. But I wasn't content with just being a pig; I wanted to grow my own wings.
The skepticism, sneers, mockery, and schadenfreude from the outside world wrapped around me like a quagmire. They were all watching me, wanting to see me fall from where I stood and fade into the crowd.
Before starting the new book, I sat in front of a blank computer like a dying person trapped in a foul-smelling swamp, trying desperately to grow flesh and blood. I wanted to escape all of this and walk under that blue sky.
And so, I wrote Chen Ling.
The malicious audience was gradually replaced by a kind audience, and the performer on the stage walked step by step to this day, taking an elegant bow under the spotlight. This is not just Chen Ling's story.
Thank you to every reader who has read this far, and thank you to everyone who likes Chen Ling, likes *God of Drama*, and likes me.
Thank you.
Many people have asked me why I used the setting of a performer on stage and the audience. I have said many things: let us not be burdened by the eyes and words of others, we must realize "who I am," walk our own path, life is a performance that only happens once, and the only ones responsible for this performance are ourselves, etc...
Chen Ling is the same. "The insane villain walks onto the throne alone"—this was the ending I originally designed for Chen Ling. But thinking about it carefully, if Chen Ling's final ending was really as I designed it, then what was the point of his journey? He still wouldn't have jumped out of his destined fate or escaped the ending arranged for him by others.
Therefore, Chen Ling's final game of chess with "me," breaking free from the shackles of text and saying the words "I am not the God of Drama... I am Chen Ling," is what this book truly wants to express.
Human perception of time is not uniform. Time moves slowest during youth, and as one ages, one feels time passing faster and faster. In the end, ten years can pass in a flash... Looking at the long river of life, which is not uniform in its time scale, there won't actually be many three-year periods that leave a deep impression. I believe that in these nearly three years of serialization, many readers have gone from junior high to high school, from high school to university, and from university into society...
It has been Sanjiu's honor to have the opportunity for *God of Drama* to accompany you through this time, which is more precious than gold.
After *God of Drama* concludes, Sanjiu will take a break for a while. As I said when *God-Slayer* concluded, I'm going to "upgrade," but this upgrade might take a bit longer. I'll probably start a new book after the New Year.
However, during this break, Sanjiu might write a standalone book of over a hundred thousand words and release it, or publish it. For example, a story with the Mask Squad as the protagonists? Or a story with Zhou Ping or Zhao Kongcheng as the main characters... It could also be a story about the world before the Great Cataclysm in *God of Drama*. I haven't decided exactly what to write yet.
But that's just a "possibility." I'll put the idea out there, but I won't promise it will be fulfilled~ You can follow Sanjiu's Douyin or Weibo; news will be synchronized there, and there will be irregular live streams.
The story of *God of Drama* will not end, and Chen Ling's journey has only just begun. The worldviews and characters of *God-Slayer* and *God of Drama* will gradually have closer connections. Perhaps An Qingyu and Li Laide will meet at the Star Observation Bureau? Perhaps the 6-generation characters and the Nightfall Squad will have a magical chemical reaction... There is still too much to write about in the "God-Slayer Universe," so please look forward to it.
In short, the main text ends here. I might update some side stories or sequels later, but the timing is not fixed.
Thank you again to every reader who has read this far. We will meet again~
Author Sanjiu Yinyu,
That is all.
