Chapter 1883: Singing Style and Good Luck
"The wind and snow are so heavy outside, why are you wearing so little?"
"You have a similar build to me. I have a few clean sets of clothes here. If you don't mind, why don't you change into them first?"
Melted snow dripped along the hem of the theatrical robes, spreading on the floor inside the house... Yao carefully examined Chen Ling’s build and asked tentatively.
"...Mm." Chen Ling nodded. "Thank you very much."
"What a beautiful theatrical robe."
Chen Yan leaned close to Chen Ling, looking at the intricate and elegant black and red patterns on it, his eyes shining as if they contained stars. "Are you also an actor? Did you come from another realm? This is my first time seeing an actor in the Aurora Realm..."
"Mm, I came from somewhere else. I originally planned to come to the Aurora Realm to handle some business, but... there was an accident."
"I understand, blizzards are something you can't guard against."
Chen Ling took off the theatrical robes and changed into Yao’s clothes. The two had nearly identical builds, and they fit perfectly.
Fortunately, Chen Ling had slightly altered his appearance before coming, otherwise, if the two stood together, it would be hard to tell who was who...
Yao helped Chen Ling take the theatrical robes to the radiator to dry, while Chen Yan was quite interested in this actor from another realm, circling around him and muttering to himself:
"Your eyes are red..."
"Strange..."
"Why do they feel a bit familiar? Like I’ve seen them somewhere before..."
Chen Yan fell into thought.
"You must have remembered wrong." Chen Ling said. "I haven't been here before."
"Alright... then can you really sing?"
"A little."
"I know a little too, I’m still learning." Chen Yan looked at Chen Ling with glowing eyes. "Can I listen to a segment... just a small segment."
"A-Yan, don't make difficult requests." Yao walked over at this time. "He’s just here to hide from the blizzard for a while... not to perform for you."
After speaking, Yao turned to look at Chen Ling and apologized: "Sorry, my younger brother is an opera fanatic."
"...It’s alright."
Chen Ling looked at Chen Yan, a flash of complexity rising in his eyes.
"If you want to listen... I’ll sing a segment for you." He then added, "Consider it my accommodation fee."
Seeing this, Yao couldn't say much more and continued to dry Chen Ling’s clothes. Chen Yan’s eyes lit up, and he sat directly on the chair, looking at Chen Ling expectantly...
Chen Ling, wearing Yao’s clothes, sat quietly by the table. The dim candlelight illuminated his and Chen Yan’s figures, and the wind and snow whined and whistled outside the window.
Chen Ling’s lips parted slightly:
"The little nun is twenty-eight,
In the prime of youth, her hair was shaved by her master.
Every day, burning incense and changing water in the Buddha hall,
Seeing several young men playing under the mountain gate..."
Chen Ling didn't perform deliberately, nor did he have strong emotions. He sang softly by the window, his opera voice melodic and resonant, as if he were talking to someone, or mourning something.
Chen Yan sat across from him. As soon as Chen Ling opened his mouth, he was stunned...
He just watched Chen Ling. The other party only sang a few lines, but it pulled his mind into the play, and gradually, he became somewhat infatuated.
The wind and snow whistled, and the opera voice was melodic.
Yao silently smoothed out the theatrical robes on the radiator bit by bit.
Just then,
A small blue flower on the corner of the theatrical robes caught his eye.
His palm suddenly paused in mid-air.
"He keeps his eyes on me,
I keep my eyes on him.
He and I, I and him,
Both sides are full of longing..."
Chen Ling’s singing continued in the living room.
Yao was silent for a moment, turned the theatrical robes over, and gently smoothed out every wrinkle with his fingertips... This time, his movements were more careful, as if he were treating a precious treasure.
……
"Hey, did you see it today?"
"What?"
"Those two brothers from the Chen family... they came to buy groceries today and brought an extra person. He feels quite like that older brother... Strange, I haven't heard that they have any other brothers."
"Oh, you mean that little Mocking Calamity."
"Oh, don't say that. That brother just looks a bit like the Mocking Calamity... When that Mocking Calamity was verifying his God path, I saw him passing by here to buy groceries."
"That’s more than just a bit like... that’s exactly the same, alright!"
"It’s bad luck that our Frost Avenue has such a kid who looks like a world-destroyer... I won't lie to you, every time I see that kid passing by the door, I get a jump, thinking the Mocking Calamity is coming to attack the Aurora Realm."
"Exactly, I heard that because of his face, his factory is even going to fire him."
"Ah? That serious?"
"Workers are a dime a dozen, right? Why keep a guy who looks exactly like the Mocking Calamity? Bad luck."
"But I really haven't heard that they have any other brothers... Is there a friend staying temporarily?"
“……”
The wind and snow stopped.
In the morning, the vegetable market was already bustling.
Chen Ling, Yao, and Chen Yan walked out of the vegetable market and walked slowly through the thick snow. The dim sunlight spilled onto the earth, and the streets and eaves reflected a snow-white shimmer.
"I’m sorry for staying in your house for a night and sponging a meal off you..." Chen Ling turned to look at the two.
"It’s fine." Chen Yan shook his head. "I should thank you. You taught me how to sing until so late last night... we didn't get much sleep."
"With your talent, even without my teaching, you would have learned it very quickly."
"Haha, I’m not that smart."
Chen Yan thought for a moment and turned to look at Yao. "Brother, let’s make braised pork for Mr. Lin today, shall we?"
Yao was startled. He subconsciously touched the wallet in his pocket, looking a bit troubled...
"Good news! Good news!"
"Our boss had a son this morning! All meat products are being sold at a ninety percent discount!"
"Everyone, each family is limited to one portion!"
Just then, a lively shout rang out from across the street.
Chen Yan and Yao were both stunned. After exchanging glances, they ran toward the butcher shop!
A few minutes later, the two returned, satisfied, carrying a side of meat.
"Strange..."
"Today’s luck seems to be quite good."
Chen Yan scratched his head.
"Maybe it’s because today is your birthday?" Yao looked at him and smiled. "On your birthday, the birthday star always has some privileges."
"Is that so..." Chen Yan thought for a moment and looked up at the gray sky. "Then, if it could be clear and sunny today, that would be great, so the party could go smoothly..."
A breeze blew through the street.
The thick, gray clouds shrouding the Aurora Realm were actually blown away bit by bit by this breeze, and a ray of bright sunlight shone through the hazy clouds onto the three of them.
Chen Yan opened his mouth in disbelief...
