Chapter 1520: The Temple of the Dead
Ghost Path Ancient Treasury.
Chen Ling bent down and hoisted the "corpse" that no longer had any breath. Jian Changsheng’s physical body was like soft, limp mud; it couldn't even stay fixed on his back.
"Let me treat him first, otherwise, even if we retrieve his soul, he won't be able to resurrect."
Chu Muyun took a small hammer from his pocket and walked straight to Chen Ling’s side.
Chen Ling nodded slightly and set the pile of mud down. Chu Muyun didn't say a word; he swung his hammer and smashed it onto Jian Changsheng’s body, sending flesh and blood flying!
Reassembling and fixing the bones shattered within the flesh was a massive project, but Chu Muyun’s surgical skills were truly superb. After swinging the hammer for over ten minutes, he had actually managed to separate the bones from the flesh and reassemble most of them.
"Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough..." Just as Chu Muyun was drenched in sweat, a series of urgent coughs rang out.
Chen Ling was startled, and then his brows furrowed tightly:
"Senior Chu, what’s wrong?"
"It’s nothing... just a minor ailment." Chu Muyun suppressed the discomfort in his body and waved his hand. "I’ve been researching some new... medical techniques lately and did some experiments on myself. It’s nothing to worry about."
Chen Ling didn't understand the Medical God Path, let alone medical experiments, but seeing Chu Muyun’s complexion change repeatedly, his gaze remained heavy... Just as he was about to ask more, Chu Muyun spoke first:
"I can only repair him to this extent..."
"My ability, in essence, cannot directly heal their bodies. It just uses this 'break then rebuild' method to make their self-healing ability grow explosively... But now that he is locked in a near-death state, his self-healing ability has completely vanished, so he cannot recover in this state."
"However, I have restored his basic framework. As long as we can retrieve his soul and wake him up, his self-healing ability should take effect immediately, and he will slowly recover his health."
By now, Chu Muyun’s complexion had returned to normal, and there was no sign of any illness. Chen Ling’s heart finally relaxed a little.
Chen Ling’s gaze turned toward the Temple of the Dead not far away:
"Less than forty minutes left, huh..."
"Should we wait for Square?" Jiang Xiaohua tilted his head.
"Time is tight, let’s not wait for him. He should still be talking to his master... In any case, our goal is that temple, and he will eventually go there to meet up with us."
Chen Ling wasn't worried about Sun Bumian’s safety at all; after all, this was the Ghost Path’s ancient treasury, and Sun Bumian was like a fish in water here.
The others naturally had no objections and set off immediately, heading straight toward the Temple of the Dead.
This so-called Temple of the Dead, from the outside, was not as magnificent or grand as Chen Ling had imagined. At the very least, it couldn't compare to the gorgeous palaces in the Emperor Path treasury, and it was less than a fifth of their size.
Rather than a temple, it was more like a shrine standing in the world of the dead. Its dark gray exterior radiated a bone-chilling cold. Once a living person approached, it felt like walking into an ice cellar, and their perception of their physical body would gradually go numb... This place did not welcome physical bodies; it only absorbed souls.
Chen Ling carried little Jian, Jiang Xiaohua held Su Xi, and they crossed the threshold one after another, walking into the temple.
But when Chu Muyun followed and stepped one foot over the threshold, his whole body gradually stiffened, and his movements became incredibly sluggish... Bone-chilling frost was exhaled from his nose. In a place with such heavy yin energy, the illness in his body was directly triggered, and he began to cough violently.
Chu Muyun instinctively pulled back the foot he had stepped in with, his eyes full of astonishment as he looked at Chen Ling and Jiang Xiaohua ahead.
How were they able to enter the temple and still move freely without changing their expressions??
Chen Ling looked back at Chu Muyun.
Right,
This Temple of the Dead had extreme hostility toward living people. He was a World-Ending Calamity and could withstand it, and Jiang Xiaohua could be considered half-living in a sense, so neither of them was affected... But Chu Muyun was ultimately just an "ordinary person." Entering the temple meant approaching "death."
"Senior Chu, you should rest well outside the temple. Leave the rest to us." Chen Ling said.
Chu Muyun didn't intend to push himself. With these two "monsters" around, there was no need for him, a Medical God Path practitioner, to go in and be a burden. He nodded and said:
"Be careful."
Chen Ling and Jiang Xiaohua exchanged a glance and stepped forward, their figures gradually fading into the dimness.
The temple corridor was narrow and cold, but as these two living people approached, the dark green candlelight on the temple walls seemed to be affected by their living aura, gradually turning into normal orange candlelight.
During this process, Chen Ling could feel the Ghost Path’s gaze upon them becoming increasingly cold, and the surrounding temperature dropping lower and lower, as if it felt offended by the two of them breaking in here... although it had already been offended many times today.
But on one hand, the Ghost Path had already made a mistake against Chen Ling and was in a contradictory stalemate; on the other hand, the karma on these two had already been mostly settled. Even if the remaining karma were to manifest now, it would be basically impossible to harm them.
Chen Ling and Jiang Xiaohua passed through the long, narrow corridor. As darkness shrouded their vision, a vast and magnificent interior space revealed itself before them...
Flicker——flicker——flicker...
Ghostly green candlelight ignited inside the temple. Countless mysterious patterns were engraved on the floor, walls, and even the hollowed-out ceiling. Even though the temple looked plain on the outside, when the two stepped into this true core area, an indescribable magnificence and pressure enveloped them!
That was the pressure from the rules... or rather, the Ghost Path!
All living things in the world eventually reach the end of their lives;
And this place was the final destination of all life, the resting place of souls, and the "death" hub leading to the River of the Underworld.
Chen Ling and Jiang Xiaohua looked up simultaneously. They saw a black divine pillar that seemed to pierce through heaven and earth standing quietly in the center of the temple, the aura of the Ghost God Path surging out from it continuously!
"This is... the Ghost Path Dao-foundation?" Chen Ling muttered to himself.
Compared to the Emperor Path treasury, the Ghost Path treasury’s completeness didn't look like a lost treasury at all. It was "lost" not because the profession it corresponded to had disappeared... but because the world was gradually losing its awe for it.
Or rather, the Ghost Path had never truly flourished. It had always quietly lurked in the shadows of this world, unseen by everyone and barely interfering with anything in the world of the living.
"Heart, look there." Jiang Xiaohua suddenly spoke.
Chen Ling looked in the direction of Jiang Xiaohua’s finger and saw a translucent figure, somewhere between a ghost and a soul, hanging before the Ghost Path Dao-foundation, wandering back and forth like a piece of tattered cloth on a tug-of-war rope.
