Chapter 1481: The Akashic Records
It was no surprise that Lord Lingxu was indifferent toward him.
In the memories of the previous Red King, Lord Lingxu was not listed among those he trusted most. Whether because of something that had happened between them or simply because Lord Lingxu wasn’t naturally inclined to trust others, his relationship with the previous Red King was not as close as that of Yang Xiao or Su Zhiwei.
Thinking about it, it made sense. In Chen Ling’s era archives, Lord Lingxu always seemed to be a peripheral character; the only person he seemed to trust was Lu Xun.
Lord Lingxu knew that Chen Ling looked the same as the previous Red King, and he wasn’t surprised that he was a World-Ending Calamity…
He might have already learned some things from Lu Xun.
But his attitude toward Chen Ling remained neutral.
Chen Ling knew very well that the Nine Lords were never anyone’s subordinates. Even in his era archives, he was the one who gathered the Nine Lords, but that didn’t mean all nine of them would follow his every command. Being a Nine Lord meant they all had their own philosophies and ideas. They wouldn’t completely trust him or revolve around him, a World-Ending Calamity, just because they had a good relationship with the previous Red King.
At the very least, Lord Lingxu didn’t have the instinctive resistance to calamities that Chu Changqing had, which was already quite good.
“You are indeed different from my impression of you.” Chen Ling said slowly.
Lord Lingxu smiled casually.
“People always grow… don’t they?”
Lord Lingxu looked at Chen Ling, and Chen Ling looked at Lord Lingxu. In each other’s eyes, they both briefly felt a trace of resonance.
Indeed, people always grow. The more one drifts, the more pressure one is under, the faster one grows.
Chen Ling was no longer the transmigrator from District 3 of the Aurora Domain, and Lord Lingxu was no longer the mascot among the Nine Lords. They both carried incredibly heavy responsibilities. In this regard, they were indeed somewhat similar.
“You went to such lengths to find me, what for?” Chen Ling cut straight to the point.
“I need the help of the Twilight Society.”
“…Oh?”
Chen Ling’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Lord Lingxu didn’t say he needed “your” help, but the help of the “Twilight Society”… There was a big difference between the two. The scene Chen Ling had seen at the construction site last night flashed through his mind, and he already had some guesses.
“I need your help to build the Akashic Tower.” Lord Lingxu spoke again.
As expected.
Chen Ling followed up on Lord Lingxu’s words: “What is the Akashic Tower?”
“Do you know about the Akashic Records?”
Chen Ling shook his head.
“The so-called Akashic Records, simply put, is the ‘information library’ of the universe.” Lord Lingxu paused for a moment. “In this library, everything that has happened, is happening, and could possibly happen in this universe is recorded… Simply put, it records the past, present, and future.
From the birth of the universe and the gestation of galaxies, down to the crawling trajectory of an ant on Earth, and everything you know or don’t know… for example, extraterrestrial life? Those void existences invisible to the naked eye? Even thoughts, language, emotions, experiences… and even all wisdom and knowledge that has ever existed or will ever appear.
In academia, there has always been a theory… that humans have never truly discovered any formula or theory.
Newton, Einstein, Gauss—those geniuses who once pushed the development of human material civilization—their consciousnesses were actually connected to the Akashic Records. Those so-called ‘flashes of inspiration’ were all them capturing a thread of information from the Akashic Records. In other words, they were unconsciously accessing the knowledge of the universe’s information library.”
Chen Ling frowned slightly:
“It sounds like you’re describing an omniscient god.”
“The Akashic Records are not a god; they are a product of the laws of the universe, an objectively existing phenomenon.”
“You want to connect your consciousness to the Akashic Records?”
“As I said, the Akashic Records contain ‘all possibilities.’ As long as one delves deep into them and reads through all ‘possibilities,’ one will definitely find a way to completely destroy the Red Star!”
Lord Lingxu looked solemnly into Chen Ling’s eyes.
“I know what the goal of your Twilight Society is. You want to find a way to reverse the tragedy by restarting the world over and over again… but your restarts are too inefficient.
As long as one can connect their consciousness to the Akashic Records, one can see all possibilities in an instant and directly find the most correct ‘solution’.”
Since sitting down, this was the first time Chen Ling had felt an emotional fluctuation from Lord Lingxu.
His eyes were no longer weary or deep, but instead lit up with an excited glow. He spoke with the fervor of a preacher, like a solver frantically chasing the “optimal solution”… and also like a gambler betting all his chips on the table.
While pondering what he had said, Chen Ling asked back:
“Then how does one connect their consciousness to the Akashic Records?”
Hearing this question, Lord Lingxu’s emotions calmed down. He was silent for a moment, then slowly spat out two words:
“Spirituality.”
“What?”
“Spirituality… no, to be precise, there is no exact ‘method’ at all.” Lord Lingxu sighed softly.
“Just like those geniuses who briefly established contact with the Akashic Records in the past, they didn’t do anything at all. There was no so-called ritual, not a shred of spiritual power. Perhaps they just took a nap, or were hit on the head by an apple, and their consciousness overlapped with the Akashic Records… They didn’t even know the concept of the Akashic Records.
Therefore, there is no exact way to establish contact with the Akashic Records. If there must be one, it is… persistence, sensitivity, and… piety. I collectively refer to them as ‘spirituality’.”
“Piety?” Chen Ling was truly stunned this time.
“You’re telling me, a dignified mathematician like you, is now pinning your hopes on some… metaphysics without any rhyme or reason?”
Lord Lingxu smiled bitterly. He opened his mouth slightly, as if there was much he wanted to say and explain, but when his consciousness looked up again at the ethereal path called “mathematics,” he ultimately said nothing.
He closed his eyes and shook his head gently:
“The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao.”
Chen Ling looked at Lord Lingxu’s eyes, which seemed to contain endless profundity, for a long time before asking back:
“Then what is the Akashic Tower?”
“In essence, it is a tower of probability.” Lord Lingxu replied truthfully.
“With that tower, I can adjust parameters to influence the probability of certain events occurring within a region… including, naturally, the probability of connecting to the Akashic Records, which is the ‘metaphysics’ you speak of.”
