Chapter 1417: The Holy Son
Mibo, He Chengxuan, Jin Xiaoyu, Fan Yue, Ye Hongtao, Linglong...
One familiar face after another fell before Teacher Ye. Fresh blood stained his crimson shirt pitch-black. By the end, Teacher Ye’s spirit had become somewhat numb; he hunted the Fusionists like a walking corpse, his eyes filled only with emptiness and vacancy.
"Ugh—!!"
Black blood spewed from Teacher Ye’s mouth. His figure swayed, and he nearly collapsed on the spot.
His vision began to darken, and his limbs felt as heavy as lead. An indescribable, excruciating pain surged from the depths of his mind, as if it were tearing his spirit in two...
Teacher Ye knew that his time was running out.
Just then,
an anxious figure descended from the sky.
"Teacher Ye!!!" Zhao Yi’s eyes were bloodshot. "Teacher Ye, everyone in the Fusionist faction has gone mad! They’ve started attacking everywhere. I tried to stop them, but they even..."
"Zhao Yi..."
Seeing who had arrived, a flicker of light returned to Teacher Ye’s eyes.
Zhao Yi had not been affected.
That’s right...
Zhao Yi was different from all the other Fusionists. He hadn't undergone fusion at the Fusionist faction, but at the Aurora Base. Although the Aurora Base’s fusion technology was poor, Zhao Yi... had met the Aurora Lord.
The Aurora Lord’s unintentional act back then had directly cleared away all the residual souls of calamity within him, allowing him to easily slay evil spirits while preventing him from being influenced by the World-Ending Calamity.
Just as Teacher Ye had once said... Zhao Yi was special.
Si Zai must have realized this as well. When it sent Mibo to ambush the South Sea Domain’s air vent, it had guided its own consciousness to lead Zhao Yi to the laboratory. Otherwise, Zhao Yi would not have been led into a deep sleep, and with his abilities, he would have inevitably discovered Mibo’s abnormal actions.
And when he led the Fusionists out on their expedition, he had subconsciously left Zhao Yi at the factory, also fearing that this variable would affect Si Zai’s plan.
From the very beginning, Si Zai had been wary of Zhao Yi!
"Teacher Ye, what’s wrong?!" Zhao Yi noticed Teacher Ye’s life force rapidly fading and stood frozen in place.
From the disappearance of the children of the Fusionist faction to the fall of the South Sea Domain, and then the violent breakdown of the children he had spent every day with, Zhao Yi was on the verge of collapse. He had no idea what was happening, as if he had been stripped away from the entire world.
When his peripheral vision caught the body of a child lying on the ground nearby, his mind roared with a deafening sound, and his consciousness went blank.
"Zhao Yi... Teacher doesn’t have much time left." Teacher Ye spoke hoarsely. "The things I’m about to tell you... you must remember them well..."
Teacher Ye’s lips moved as he spoke earnestly. Zhao Yi’s expression shifted from initial confusion to shock, and finally, he sank back into deep bewilderment and despair.
"No... Teacher Ye!! Without you all, then I..."
"Zhao Yi, from the start, I knew you were special... You are the Holy Son of our Fusionist faction. This isn't just a joking title, but the expectation of that corner of my subconscious that hasn't yet been influenced by Si Zai."
Teacher Ye raised his hand and waved it gently toward Zhao Yi.
"From now on, the Fusionist faction... will be left to you alone."
A strand of thought struck Zhao Yi’s mind. Before he could say anything, his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Teacher Ye took one last deep look at the sleeping Zhao Yi, then dragged his dying body toward a certain direction...
"Only... two left."
He whispered hoarsely to himself.
……
Bang—!!
An agile and nimble figure sprinted along the vertical wall of a high-rise. With a single step, she shattered an entire pane of glass, landing as weightlessly as a feather on one of the floors.
Her hemp-yellow coat fluttered. The girl, shrouded in killing intent, crouched on the ground like a beast, her eyes glowing crimson.
"It’s a Calamity!!"
"We already blew up the stairs on the first floor! How... how did it get up here?!"
"Damn it, who said hiding here was absolutely safe?!"
"The granary, the water tower, the hospital, the armory... and now, it’s finally our radio station’s turn?"
"It wants to cut off our communication with the outside world! Fight it to the death!!"
“……”
The entire building had been sealed off by survivors. The stairs on the first floor had been blown up to prevent Calamities from following them up, and the chains of the steam-powered elevator had been cut. They had thought they could survive in the upper levels, but they hadn't expected a Calamity to be able to climb the vertical walls.
But when they saw that the incoming Calamity looked like a young girl, their fear dissipated slightly, and they charged forward with knives and steel pipes!
However, the next second, the girl in the hemp-yellow coat darted out with astonishing speed!
She was so fast that before the group could even raise their weapons, her sharp claws had already torn their blades in two. Just as they watched in terror as the killing intent magnified before their eyes, a sudden change occurred!
The girl’s shadow suddenly twisted violently, and a massive force seemed to strike her from thin air, slamming her heavily against the wall!
Boom—!!
Dust swirled. The girl’s figure only stopped after crashing through two walls.
"Xiaotao!! Wake up!!" Xiaobai’s voice rang out from Xiaotao’s shadow, sounding as if he were about to cry. "What’s wrong with you all... Everything was fine, why did you suddenly..."
Amidst the ruins of the wall, Xiaotao’s figure staggered back to her feet.
She scanned the area, and finding no sign of the enemy that had just attacked her, she turned her gaze back to the terrified crowd.
"Cough, cough, cough, cough, cough..."
A weak coughing sound came from outside the window.
Xiaotao and the crowd turned simultaneously. A figure in a shirt stained nearly black with blood was hunched over as he stepped onto the floor. Teacher Ye was covering his mouth with one hand, fresh blood streaming out uncontrollably, his face as pale as paper.
"Teacher Ye!!"
Hearing that voice, Xiaobai’s joyful cry rang out. As if he had finally seen a savior, he lunged out from Xiaotao’s shadow.
Teacher Ye’s steps were unsteady. Seeing Xiaobai rushing toward him, he paused slightly, a complex look appearing in his eyes...
Xiaobai was one of the very few in the Fusionist faction who had fused with a Calamity from the Ghost-Mocking Abyss. Since the World-Ending Calamity of the Ghost-Mocking Abyss was Chen Ling, and Chen Ling did not currently possess the true power of a Ninth-Rank World-Ender, he naturally wouldn't influence Xiaobai from afar. As long as Chen Ling didn't lose himself, Xiaobai remained safe for the time being.
"Teacher Ye, what happened to you?!" Xiaobai asked worriedly.
Teacher Ye shook his head. He no longer had the strength to explain; the triple-dose serum had drained his body, and the shadow of death was creeping into his eyes.
