Chapter 1333: A Hot Commodity and a Deal
Everyone noticed this god of slaughter on the battlefield.
Jian Changsheng's aura and actions were simply too conspicuous. While the Xuanyu Realm was still struggling to maintain its defensive line, he had already killed his way into the rear of the calamity tide with one sword, casually slaying two Seventh-Ranks. This achievement was enough to shock the entire realm.
You have to realize that apart from the three Eighth-Ranks currently in the Xuanyu Realm, no one else could be found who was more ferocious than Jian Changsheng.
And judging by this momentum, if Jian Changsheng kept killing, it wasn't impossible for him to even contend with an Eighth-Rank calamity...
"Who is he??"
This question appeared in everyone's mind.
"Is he from our Xuanyu Realm?"
"Is he a friend of Lord Tianhuai? Otherwise, he wouldn't have come out to help right now, would he?"
"He doesn't look like it either... He seems to just want to break out, with no intention of coordinating with us to resist the tide of calamities."
"He's too strong. If we could recruit him, the Xuanyu Realm's chances of winning would increase significantly!"
The same thought also appeared in the minds of all the high-level officials of the Xuanyu Realm.
Even Tianhuai stopped maneuvering against the Eighth-Rank calamity, and after retreating slightly, he couldn't help but ask:
"Why do I feel like I've seen him somewhere before? Do you know who he is?"
"I know," Huaimang's voice sounded. "He is Black Spade 6 of the Twilight Society, real name Jian Changsheng."
"Someone from the Twilight Society??"
Hearing the words "Twilight Society," everyone's expressions turned strange.
"Yes, I've had contact with those of the 6-rank generation before... Although they are branded with infamy by the outside world, they haven't actually done anything bad. Back in the Tianchu Realm, if it weren't for them, we probably would have all died at the hands of the Ghost God Path."
Huaimang was also one of the eyewitnesses to the Wuji Realm incident, knowing that the charges against Chen Ling, Jian Changsheng, and the others were baseless. When the Alliance Council sentenced Chen Ling, he had argued for Chen Ling alongside Han Meng and several other possessors of the Heavenly Star Position, but unfortunately, it hadn't had much effect.
"So, they can actually be won over?" A high-level official of the Xuanyu Realm was somewhat pleasantly surprised.
Now that the Xuanyu Realm was in imminent danger, and such a calamity-nemesis had appeared, the high-level officials would naturally try every means to recruit him to protect their own realm... just like the Blind Man of the South Sea Realm.
With all five human realms mired in war, the existence of a war machine like Jian Changsheng was absolutely a hot commodity.
He was from the Twilight Society, so what?
Special times call for special measures. As long as Jian Changsheng could defect to the human realms and participate in the war to kill calamities, the high-level officials of other realms could let bygones be bygones.
Tianhuai's gaze was fixed on the direction Jian Changsheng had left, wondering what he was thinking.
……
The figure of black killing intent moved straight ahead in the tide of calamities.
Whether it was because the Delusion Calamity had discovered Jian Changsheng's intentions, Jian Changsheng only felt that the deeper he went, the fewer calamities there were in his vicinity, as if someone had specially opened a green channel for him leading directly to the Gray World, wishing he would leave sooner.
Jian Changsheng's original intention was just to leave the Xuanyu Realm. If those calamities didn't provoke him, he couldn't be bothered to take the initiative to kill them. A subtle balance formed between the two, allowing Jian Changsheng, Sun Bumian, and Jiang Xiaohua to move through the tide of calamities with increasing ease!
Just as he was about to charge out of the calamity encirclement and enter the Gray World, a puppet bird suddenly flew lightly through the high sky, approaching Jian Changsheng, who was rushing on the ground.
Jian Changsheng initially thought it was a calamity without eyes and subconsciously wanted to slash it with his sword.
But the next second, a voice came from the bird:
"I am Tianhuai of the Esoteric Sect. Jian Changsheng, we met in the Wuji Realm."
Jian Changsheng was stunned.
"Oh... it's you? I thought you were a calamity."
"Time is tight, so I'll be brief... Huaimang and I have convinced the other high-level officials. We are willing to cancel the warrants for you, as well as Meihua 6 and Fangkuai 6 behind you, in the Xuanyu Realm, and grant you formal, legal status."
Jian Changsheng raised an eyebrow. "That sounds a bit familiar..."
"The Esoteric Sect has never had any conflict with you, and when the Alliance Council framed you before, we even came forward to argue on your behalf... That abstention vote was cast by my direct confidant."
"Good sincerity... Tell me, what do you want?"
"We want you," Tianhuai said solemnly. "As long as you can help the Xuanyu Realm repel the calamities and get through this crisis, regardless of the attitude of other realms toward the three of you, the Xuanyu Realm is willing to accept you."
"If I remember correctly, in any realm, anyone who sees a Twilight Society member must issue a warrant and arrest them... That's part of the Human Covenant, isn't it? Can you really violate it?"
"Of the nine realms that established the Covenant, only five remain. God knows how many will survive by the time this war ends." Tian Huai paused for a moment. "Besides, if the realms are gone, what point is there in upholding a piece of paper?"
"You have a point."
Jian Changsheng was tempted.
For members of the Dusk Society to obtain legal status within a realm was something that had never happened before. If they could truly achieve this, they would never again have to live like rats, drifting from place to place, never knowing where their next meal would come from.
"I can agree to your terms," Jian Changsheng said after a moment of thought, "but I have one condition."
"Name it."
"In addition to the three of us, I want a legal status for Heart 6 as well."
"This..."
Tian Huai hesitated. After all, Heart 6, Chen Ling, was the Calamity of Mockery... Granting legal status to a world-ending calamity within a human realm? It was unheard of!
But what set Tian Huai apart from the other high-ranking officials of the realms was that he had personally experienced the Calamity of Mockery in the Wuji Realm. The Calamity of Mockery was indeed terrifying, but Chen Ling was not an evil person... One could say that their lives had all been saved by Chen Ling.
Tian Huai was not Lord Nanhai; he didn't harbor such deep hatred for the Calamity of Mockery, and even less so for Chen Ling. He believed that Chen Ling was controllable.
Furthermore, the current Xuanyu Realm had no demigod presiding over it, the number of Tier 8s was only a third of those in the Falsehood Mountains, and their other combat capabilities were significantly lacking... If they fought a conventional war, their chances of victory were extremely slim.
Under these circumstances, only by taking a risky move could they hope to secure a glimmer of survival...
"Fine, I agree!" Tian Huai gritted his teeth and accepted Jian Changsheng's demand.
Jian Changsheng's eyes lit up, and he immediately stopped in his tracks.
Tian Huai's bird puppet had already flown back to the Xuanyu Realm. Jian Changsheng regained his focus and realized that Sun Bumian and Jiang Xiaohua had already caught up.
"Why did you stop? Aren't we almost through the encirclement?" Sun Bumian asked, puzzled.
"We can hold off for a day or two before going to find Heart."
"What???"
Jian Changsheng stretched his limbs, the divine ring of killing intent flowing silently behind him. He looked at the many calamities behind him, a faint smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
"I suddenly feel that going to see him empty-handed isn't quite right... Perhaps I should bring him a 'gift'."
