Chapter 409: The Recorder of Past and Present (Part 20)
Si Zhaonan cursed the group of cunning old bastards inwardly.
There was no time to think further.
The two demon saints had already attacked together.
Si Zhaonan reacted quickly.
When saints clashed, the battle was naturally earth-shattering.
Blinded by rage, the two demon saints regained their senses and suddenly realized something.
The battle was taking place on their own territory.
At this moment, the demon race was in utter devastation; the brief exchange had already reduced the territories of some major demon clans to ashes.
This scene left the two demon saints hesitant.
Si Zhaonan, realizing the situation, laughed loudly.
This wasn't his own territory, so he naturally had no scruples.
The earth cracked, and countless extraterrestrial stars, disturbed by the terrifying force of the battle, were drawn in, forming a magnificent meteor shower.
The night sky shone brightly.
Si Zhaonan's impeccably luxurious yellow robes were shattered in the battle, revealing his massive physique riddled with wounds, large and small. A bronze mask covered his face, its eyes revealing bloodlust and madness.
"I, Si Zhaonan, rose from humble beginnings. Though I have had many fortuitous encounters, I have cultivated to this point in this dog-eat-dog world."
"My reliance has always been on only one word."
"Ruthless!"
"Only by being ruthless enough will others fear you, only then will you have a chance to breathe. If you're not ruthless enough, you'll have been devoured long ago, leaving not even bone fragments."
Si Zhaonan ignored his injuries. This dignified saint, now like a mad dog, gripped the Zhenyuan Halberd.
He abandoned all defense. The ancient saint's terrifying attack had annihilated most of Si Zhaonan's body. Si Zhaonan uttered no sound, and fiercely swung the halberd directly at the Demon Lord.
Hundreds of towering mountains, along with the surrounding area, were instantly reduced to dust, leaving a crater resembling an abyss.
Saints are called saints not only because of their immense power, but also because their essence is different from that of beings below the saint level. Even if only a drop of blood remains, they can quickly regenerate, making them extremely difficult to kill within their own realm.
Si Zhaonan blocked another attack, his body flying backward, but he was unharmed in the blink of an eye.
He swiftly changed his attack.
From the endless abyss, a figure burst forth in fury, only to be met head-on by a halberd that hurtled like a meteor, piercing straight through his body.
Even a saint, capable of regenerating from a drop of blood, would suffer immense losses from being repeatedly severely injured.
"Old man... I've severed the future of your race. Even if you win this battle, what then?"
"How long can your body last? When you die, the demons will suffer the same fate as humans—extinction!"
Si Zhaonan knew he couldn't fight two against one.
All he could do was try his best to fight for a chance to survive.
"Humanity has truly produced another remarkable figure."
The old demon saint's tone was icy: "If you leave, my demon race is willing to cease invading humanity."
Si Zhaonan laughed loudly.
"What are you laughing at?"
"I'm laughing at your ridiculousness, managing to come up with such a lame excuse."
Leave? Give the demon saint enough time to recover, then it'll be two against one?
Si Zhaonan wasn't a fool.
"In the battle of the outer space... if you win, the human race will be at your disposal."
"If I win, your demon race will slowly disappear into the torrent of history!"
Si Zhaonan's words had barely finished when the Old Demon Saint spoke, "I agree."
The Demon Lord hurriedly said, "Ancestor, this is likely a human scheme."
He had to be wary.
The Old Demon Saint, however, said, "Do you intend to continue fighting on your own territory?"
These words left the Demon Lord speechless.
The demon territory had already lost a quarter of its land after the battle between the three saints. If the fighting continued, the entire world might be destroyed... What the demons wanted was a land more suitable for their survival, not a desolate land devoid of any life.
With the departure of the three saints from this continent... none of them ever returned successfully.
In the deserted starry sky, countless stars shattered.
A colossal corpse, devoid of any life, floated in the starry sky.
This was the Lord of Demons.
The old Demon Saint, imprisoned in a cage, let out a furious roar of defiance.
Only an elderly man, nearing sixty, sat cross-legged, his face still veiled by a bronze mask.
He gazed towards the distant continent.
Si Zhaonan casually removed the mask.
"My life has been one of battles, building an unparalleled empire, and ultimately becoming the savior of humanity."
"It wasn't just a fleeting glance."
His gaze calmly fell upon the old Demon Saint.
"You and I, buried together on this planet, won't be lonely. Perhaps thousands upon thousands of years later, our blood will give birth to a new race, a new race that will fight to the death."
"That's interesting to think about."
Si Zhaonan chuckled. "I can perish with you on this planet... but this mask cannot. Perhaps there will be others who need it more than I do."
He casually tossed the mask into the depths of space, and it vanished in a stream of light.
Si Zhaonan's eyes slowly closed.
......
Years passed in the starry sky.
An unknown number of years later.
On a planet.
A young man stared blankly as a mountain peak shattered before him.
He had only wanted to travel and record the beauty of nature.
But suddenly, he encountered a supernatural event?
Hiss.
With curiosity, the young man cautiously moved forward.
Where the mountain peak had been, a huge crater had appeared. Within that crater, the cause of all this was a bronze mask.
"A treasure, this must be a treasure!"
The young man's name was Meng Pingsheng, whose greatest hobby was to see all the wonders of the world, migrating south and north like the wild geese in the sky.
Meng Pingsheng jumped to the bottom of the deep pit and picked up the bronze mask.
His life, the gears of fate, began to turn.
From the moment Meng Pingsheng put on the mask.
He met a man who called himself the Heavenly Emperor, the previous host of the mask, who taught him many techniques and supernatural powers.
The only drawback was that he constantly urged him to conquer the world.
Conquering the world—was that something a lazy bum like him should be doing?
Meng Pingsheng politely declined Si Zhaonan's request.
To Meng Pingsheng's surprise, Si Zhaonan didn't show anger before disappearing; instead, he smiled with satisfaction, allowing him to live on in his own way.
So Meng Pingsheng followed the path he wanted to take. He traveled to many places, from the small mountain range at the beginning, to the dynasties and their rivers, to the mountains and seas of the sun and moon... to the stars beyond the realms, to countless races.
Under a cloud-covered pine tree, huge waves crashed against the rocky shore.
Meng Pingsheng removed his mask, leaning against the pine tree, watching the sunrise and sunset.
He slowly closed his eyes, a smile playing on his lips, the bronze mask sliding down his hand.
